Shahidur R. Khandker is a development economist with research experience of over 30 years at the World Bank and other development organizations. He was a lead economist at the World Bank’s Development Research Group. After his retirement from the World Bank, he spent about 3 years during 2015–2017 as a visiting senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute. He has been a leading researcher in the areas of microfinance, rural and agri-finance, poverty, gender, and rural infrastructural development. His expertise includes micro-econometrics, household survey design, micro-data collection, and analysis. He has authored more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Political Economy and Journal of Development Economics.
